Personal relationships with your characters?

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 11, 2012, 3:41 PM

I was wondering how much of a relationship you have with your characters. Sometimes they're more than just some animal you draw from time to time. What's your feelings towards them?

For me, my top three characters, my fursona Kium the Chatinroo, Afredima the Meadow Dragon and Takoda the island cougar are my best friends.

Kium is like my little cuddle buddy, when I want to be happy and joyful I just imagine her wiggling around in my shoulder bag with her tail poking out or the citizens of the United States bracing for the annual Cuddle Season with the sound of a charging bundle of a million chatinroos getting ready to spread the love coming over the horizon :D tehe~

Afredima is like my best buddy of them all. Kium is technically me, but I feel like Afre would be the one beside me the entire time. He's a little more on the serious side when it comes to his personality, calm and collect and he's the one I rant to and would have deep conversations with.

Takoda :D I love that little boy! He has that sweet little innocent face and wouldn't hurt a fly. I can imagine that if he was real I would be holding his hand and taking him everywhere like he's my son :)

I know it sounds crazy, but they feel real and comfort me when I need them in every aspect. I just want to cuddle them until the end! :D

Yours Truly,
Kium

I've role played a version of myself online for a little more than a dozen years now. In that time, I've only created a couple of supporting characters for the setting that I had been using.

Recently, I started working on a story for my personal character. I came up with eight other characters that were going to also be in it. As I was working through the plot line, I realized that a relationship started forming between Ricci, a fox character, and 'myself'. In turn, I started giving more substance to his background, family and some other things...

I would abandon my family, and friends for them. I would sacrifice innocent people and animals for them. i would die for them.

Without them I wouldn't be here as long as I have.

Oh, and then there's an unnamed brown wolf character. I suppose she's also me inside. I draw her all the time, but haven't made a name or a personality for her. I draw her being all sad when I'm upset and it makes me feel like I can keep going, like I can be okay. I draw her jumping around like a little puppy or standing happy and proud when I'm in a good mood. So I guess she's pretty much me.

Letu, my flying cat fursona, is basically me as a cat. We talk together and sometimes argue and sometimes comfort each other just like I do in my own head. Mostly she tends to be the braver, more excitng half of me, though.

Macijin, (a wolf hybrid that was formerly a champion dog fighter until he happily escaped) is sort of my big brother/protector in my mind. He's strong and loyal, but kind of troubled because of his past. He protects me and I reassure him and help him sort out his problems.

I get along the very best with Grissen, my fluffy polar bear/gryphon hybrid. He's basically the most playful, easily amused, and happy-go-lucky guy I've ever met. He's kind of clumsy with his huge paws and his desire to eat everything, and that makes him adorable. He's pretty much my big, playful pet.

I totally have a personal relationship with my characters, so I get what you mean ♥
Even when I made a character specifically for selling it breaks my heart to give them away. And that's when I haven't even bonded with them...

i have a HUGE bond with them,
Mannie my 'sona is like..... well like the more daring one, and i just feel more empowered when i draw her.
Blackies the one i draw when im having a crappy day, usually with my health. when i feel run down or crappy i just draw him, fall asleep, and i feel better.
they just make me feel better, no matter what, its a really great thing to have characetrs like that

I wouldn't go as far as saying they're my best friends (I have plenty of real humans for that lol) but I do connect to them eventually, especially if they're OCT or comic characters. I find it takes me a while to warm up to them if I'm not using them in anything, but after a while I start to love them, especially since they all reflect my personality in some subtle way.

well... i don't really have much of a bond with my animal characters, but with the ones i write for...
let's just say that without them, i don't think i'd be nearly as stable as i am today. they've helped me through a lot, and i'm so thankful for them.
i'm talking about the characters for my book, haha. ♥ but yeah, i suppose i do know what you're talking about!
